Simple Ways to Handle Holiday Stress

By: Carleen Saeger, M.S., OTR/L, Wellness and Endurance Coach, RYT

Does anyone else have a crazy long to do list to tackle now that the kids are back in school?

I also have about 52 Amazon boxes to go through

And so much more.

I know this time of year can be super busy…so make sure to take some time out for yourself.

Holiday stress is a real thing!

What to Do?

Try to recognize warning signs in yourself like:

  • Irritability

  • Fatigue

  • Overwhelm

  • Headache

  • Tight Shoulders

  • Grinding Teeth / Clenching Jaw

  • And more...

What To Do?

When you notice those warning signs (or even before!), then take a short break to do something for yourself throughout your day. This could be as short as a few minutes or as long as an afternoon or day off!

  • Crank some tunes and dance it out for a few minutes

  • Close your eyes for five minutes and turn on a guided relaxation on Calm or YouTube

  • Head outside for a short walk or even just to stand outside enjoying the fresh air

  • Cook your favorite meal

  • Take a coffee or tea break (my personal fav)

  • Get cozy and read a good book

  • Take a relaxing bath or shower (bonus if you include some essential oils!)

  • Do your nails

  • Relax with an at home facial or mask

  • Enjoy an adult coloring book or channel your creativity by drawing/painting

  • Call a good friend

  • Do yoga (take a class in person, online, or do flow on your own!)

  • And most importantly... breathe (more on this in another post!)

Whatever resonates with you, I invite you to do a little something for yourself each day. This will help to empty your stress cup so you can continue to tackle all of those things on your to do list.

Trust me…. Your future self will thank you!!
